Stain and replace with a compatable stain.

Lovitts a good stain to replace wood guard.

I would not recommend putting anything over Woodguard. It really should be sanded or media blasted first.
Not real familiar with Lovitt’s but they state that it ”has a blend of natural oils” which tells me it has some sort of plant oil in it like linseed oil or the like. My opinion is it will turn black or break down fast. Stick with a good quality latex stain made for log homes like Sascho or Pema Chink stains.
