Staining a 2-Story Log Cabin on a Limited Budget

I am an owner of a log cabin. My health limits what I am able to do. Mt cabin needs staining. Could I stain the lower part of my cabin this year and do the top part next year. My funds are limited. It is a 2 story cabin. Must I use a spray gun or can I use a brush. Thanks
