Not sure where you are located, but you should go with Cabot’s recommendation. January is not a good time to stain unless you are in the south.

Rotten logs should never be covered. They will continue to rot under the siding and will cause structural issues over time. You need to replace all rotten logs and then you can cover. Call Ryan for help at 877-788-5647.

You could wrap and fir out, but it might be easier to deal with the windows and doors if you remove the existing siding.

They are both good. The red has more tannins in it and seems to be a little bit more rot resistant.

You should stain ASAP before mold, dirt and pollen settle on it. If left for more than a week or so you should give it a light rinse with Log Wash. If you stripped it take advantage and apply borate. It can only be applied to bare wood.

You can side it with almost anything, but be sure to replace any rotten logs, if any, first or you could have structural issues later.
