Any kind of cedar or cypress will work well. You should run a bead of chink around the bottoms so the water cannot get to the bottoms to help stop the wicking.

Sure can. If you have any rot I would recommend fixing it first so that it does not keep rotting and cause a structural failure.

Sikken’s Log & Siding is one mix. Takes two coats. But I do not like oil based stains.

The wood was not properly dried when first sealed and will continue to do it for years. Not much you can do to stop it. You do not normally see this in thinner milled lumber.

you need to keep them where there is better air flow and maybe apply a coat of borate right after peeling.

Mix 1/2 cup of bleach and 4 gallons of warm water and wipe them down. Wear a good dust mask. If it continues to show up I would recommend a mold expert look at it. You may even want to have them come in first.
