That stuff is tough. It almost always turns black. Glass or sand blasting is the best. Grinding would be a last resort, but you better have hundreds of disc’s.

Yes, you could mix the species, but they may take the stain differently. You could stain with a solid color to avoid this problem, and it will hold up better for you in Florida. They will need to be pretty straight to use for cabin poles.
