Try a heat gun and a putty knife to scrape.

That is strictly a personal preference, but black or gray would look good I would think.

A treated sill under it would be a good idea. You definitely should treat the logs with a good borate like Shell-Guard. I think the pan idea would catch water a cause trouble.

My choice would be either brownish or gray. Forest Green may look good also.

You could grind or sand it off yourself to clean wood. Do not go on a shoestring budget to buy the stain. Buy a good quality log home stain like Life Line. Once re-finished, keeping up on the maintenance is the key to not having to re-do it again in… Read More »Archive-8456

You more than likely didn’t allow the wood to dry enough before staining and trapped the moisture in the siding which causes the black mold.
