It is normal, but I do not recommend filling them. Better to leave them alone unless they are allowing wind, water or bugs to get inside. If you are concerned about bigger, facing up checks, squeeze some Shell-Guard into them. Call 800-564-2987 to purchase.

Hard to say without seeing it, but most log homes with a open area could be closed in. Contact a local contractor familiar with log home construction.

It sounds like the logs were not dried properly when the chink was applied. As they dry they will pull from the chink. Yes, either corn cob blasting or glass blasting to remove the paint. Crushed glass might be the better choice for this. Not really sure what to tell you. I’m not sure what you mean by ”bond breaker”. Normally we would just chink over the existing. If you do remove the old chink you should take care and insert shims between the logs to stop any settling.
