Figure the lineal feet of chink lines and the average width of the opening. Make your calculations from there based on the width of the oakum.

You shouldn’t need to make it any bigger, just be sure to use enough product to have it work for you. Use Energy Seal caulk.

Hard to clean. You may want to paint it. Get a good quality latex primer and have it tinted to the color that you want. Perma Chink makes a chink paint, but it is hard to apply.

You can put latex over oil, but not oil on latex. You should not put Weatherall over latex.
