You can chink and then stain on top of it to help hide it.
Caulking is made for lines that are 3/4” or less. Chink is used on lines that are 3/4” or more.
To restore the Cypress, please Email me a photo of the condition. Use the web site to send. Mortar chinking is authentic and used on buildings that have historical functions. Not practicle for modern heat and cooling preferences. Use permachink over the mortar.
Larry: If you are using Energy Seal I am guessing that you will not need a backer rod.
Jules: There not much you can do to get the chink off without destroying the finish. It will probably have to be striped and redone.
Pete: I would use premixed motar from the bag.
Electra: The easiest is to buy the premixed motar in a bag.
Dear Emerald, For that small of a job you should just buy pre-mix mortar bags. Reinforce the chink lines with nails or staples.
Mark: You may end up pushing the chink out from the foam expanding. You must be very careful with the canned foam around doors and windows. If you put too much it will cause the frames to bind. I would not recommend it.
