Find a good custom window company in your area and get references that have had the windows for a few years to see how they hold up. I would recommend a clad or metal frame.

If it is just the columns and you sand them first you will get a nice gloss finish from Sikkens Log & Siding. It does require timely maintenance to maintain this look. Probably every year, no more than 2.

I would not recommend just covering the logs without repairing them, since they will just continue to rot in the walls. Once you get it repaired you should apply a good quality borate treatment to all wood. Shell Guard is a good choice.
