You could let it go for the winter, but it will need to be cleaned in the spring prior to staining. Give it a light wash with log wash, allow to dry for a few days and then stain. Call 800-564-2987 for the products you will need.

Paint is a big no no on log homes. It needs to be removed and have a good quality log home stain applied. LifeLine or Capture/Cascade are both good choices.

I would recommend stripping the logs of the Woodguard before applying Sikkens. I do not know of anything that you can put over it.
