It will need to be media blasted. I would recommend that you Osborne brush it and borate treat it also. Go with a good latex log home stain instead of the Wood Guard.

better than filling the checks and having rot start. I see it all of the time. Most log home owners will not inspect the checks that have filled and water still gets in, but now has an even poorer chance to dry out.

You are probably getting the mold from the power washing and not allowing to dry properly before apply stain. Not right now, but Sikkens recommends that it have a maintenance coat every 4 or 5 years. I believe you can apply the Cetol Maintenance over SRD to help maintain the color.

Not sure where you are located, but the hole size sounds like Old House bores. Never heard of the dripping before.

I would wash with TSP and hot water then rinse. Apply a good coat of Shell Guard borate.
