Sounds like a power washer job. It will need to be sanded and then stained. You may want to wait till spring and let it dry out real well.

No poly, inside or out. Use a good quality latex stain. I prefer Life Line from Perma Chink.

I don’t think that it will cause any splitting of the logs. Cracking and splitting is normal. It happens less if the logs are good and dry before construction.

You should sand them with a floor sander and then apply a good quality floor finish.
