It sounds like it is frass from Powder Post Beetle. The holes are tiny. I doubt that it is mold but you may want to have a mold remediation company look at it to be sure.

Not sure. Sounds like it could be a parasitic wasp entering a beetle hole. Call Dave at 800-564-2987. He may be able to help or give you a name that can.

I would recommend you call an exterminator that knows the bugs in your area and can offer some assistance. The Carpenter Bees have been bad everywhere this spring. I have had a lot of calls about them. There isn’t much you can do to stop them.

It sounds like Powder Post Beetle. The only way to really stop them is to strip the logs and apply a borate treatment.

Not that I’m aware of. We have worked on many log homes in Texas and haven’t seen any more bugs there than the rest of the country.
