You wouldn’t catch me there for nothing!!! you can try having the exterior chinked/caulked completly on the exterior.
If you want it blotchy use stripper. If you want it to turn black and fail early, powerwash it. It should corn cob blasted, borate treated and then stained with a good quality latex log home stain.
