NO! you need to use a ”closed cell foam” like Grip strip for backer. Never use the spray can foam on a log home.

Yes you can. I would recommend using an exterior latex primer tinted to the color of your chink.

You do not want to fill these cracks (checks). It sounds like the home should be chinked or caulked to avoid the leaking.

Chinking or caulking the inside shouldn’t be a problem. If the line is 3/4′ or less you should use caulk. I would recommend Energy Seal. Call 800-564-2987 to purchase and get more help.
