I would sand them.
You can put a backer foam in the check and fill it with caulk that best matches the color of the wood. I do not recommend this for the exterior.
Sounds like a plan. You may need to add extra lime to the mix to help it stick.
White is White. There isn’t much you can do. I would take it back and take the hit on the restocking charge and start over.
Use Energy Seal made by Perma Chink.
You should consult the manufacturer of Logbuilder to be sure, but I do not know why you couldn’t.
You need to caulk/chink the exterior complete.
I would recommend cleaning up the edges of the old mortor chinking and chink right on top of the old.
