You should use a product called ”Grip Strip”. It can be ordered to most any width and fits in tight enough that you should not need to mechanically fasten it and should have good stability. Call Timeless Wood Care Products to order at 800-564-2987.

This not that out of line for costs. I would think a fresh coat on top of the old chinking old work instead of pulling out the old and replacing it.
The mold will have to be removed by corn cob blasting and also so that a borate can be applied to help stop the bug infestation. This will also help stop log rot.
You need to chink the exterior complete. Call 866-670-3020 and ask Mike for some help.
