Do not use these products on your logs. The logs do need to breathe. Do not fill all of the checks (cracks) in the logs. Best to leave them open unless you know they are letting wind, water or bugs get inside.
Do not use any motor oil. Try washing with TSP and hot water, but it would be best to corn blast and start over. Not sure if you will ever get any kind of stain to stick with the oil in the wood fiber.
Once blasted and stained properly it will last many years if maintenance is kept up. It will require some sort of maintenance every 3 or 4 years.
Yes you can apply faux log ends at corners. Call Ryan at 877-788-5647 for help. As for the back splash, you should be able to remove the tile and sand logs to re-finish. Hopefully they didn’t chisel flats on the logs to apply tile.
