Depends on how good the existing stain is. If you do not prep the surface properly it could peel.
It depends on what kind of stain it is. You have to be careful with some stains that you do not build it up too much or it could peel. if it is beading up I would say it’s good for another year.

Any deck stain is good for only about 2 years since they are flat to the weather and sun. If you want a solid deck stain I like Sherwin Williams Deckscapes. If you want a semi-transparent I like to use Endure from Perma Chink.
