I would just apply the borate, preferably a glycol based one like Shell Guard. DO NOT apply just clear coat without stain.
You will need to corn cob or glass blast before applying any stain. After ten years the surface will not be desirable to put stain on. If you would like a smoother, shiny finish then it should be sanded or Osborne brushed after blasting.
Media blasting should do it for you. Either corn or glass. You will want to sand or Osborne brush the interior afterward for a smoother finish after staining so that you can wipe dust from then during cleaning. You may want to do the same on exterior.

You should sand or stain the unfinished logs ro the stain you put on will never get a good bond and fail prematurely. Has for what it on it, that is hard unless you have documentation.
The best product for shine is Sikkens Log & Siding. DO NOT put it over another product. Find a local dealer in your area for help.
