If the logs are dry you should try to stain it before winter. Go with a good latex stain like Life Line from Perma Chink.

Latex over oil is usually OK, but you should talk with Sherwin Williams to see if they would agree. Woodscapes Solid is a very good product in my opinion. I have it on my home and have had very good luck with it.

My personal opinion – find another stain. I like to use Perma Chink Ultra 2 or Ultra 7. Call Dave at 800-564-2987 for help choosing the right stain for you.

The CWF is causing the black because of paraffin and linseed oil in the product. Power washing is cancer to a log home and if you do use it to strip, it must dry for a long time before any stain is applied. Especially using CWF.
