Yes solid color stains do blend new logs and old together by covering the log grains. This does work. Trans parent stains are more difficult keeping up. The upkeep will require every 2 years proguard clear coat. I would suggest to use borate on the logs 1st.

Do not use paint! You should use a solid color stain which looks like paint, but has the qualities of stain.

I would apply a borate and wait about a month before staining.
You want to make sure you apply a good borate solution first. The only time you can apply this is when you have bare wood. You then need to let the house became as dry as possible without letting mold or dirt get on it.
