Decks are tough since they catch all the direct sun and water standing on them. I’m not aware of a product that will give you much time for protection. Plan on working on a deck every other year.

Ther is not much you can do without stripping the logs back to bare wood. Then you could apply a borate treatment to help stop the bugs and help with log rot.
Staining then with a solid color stain will be the only way to lighten them without stripping them back to bare wood.
Sanding will be your best option.
Unless they waited at least a month you will probably experience black mold under your stain in just a couple of years.
You can wash your home, but mix warm water with 1 cup TSP and 1 cup bleach and scrub the logs with a soft brush. You can then rinse witha misting nozzle on your garden hose. Let dry for 2-4v days before staining.

Ive used and have seen hundreds of formulations for log protection. Kerosene and motor oil combination was used at one time but not advisable. Call Timeless Woodcare forfriendly products. 800-564-2987
Randy: I really don’t think solid color stain is bad for logs. Any stain on logs is fine, either solid or transparent. Paint on the other hand should never be used. Stain allows the wood to breath as where paint seals them upto much.
