Murph’ys wood be fine unless there is ever going to be future staining or clear coating done. It shouldn’t hurt the oakum.

Repair the chinking will help, but you will probably see the cob for a long time.

As always, I do not recommend filling the checks unless they are allowing wind, water or bugs to get inside. Anything that you fill needs to be inspected a couple of time a year for failure and repair. Yes, I would fill the receded knots.

Cut along top and bottom edge with a utility knife and pull out. You will probably have to sand these edges to remove the rest of the Log Jamb from the logs.
